Holidaying In The UK

The camping and caravanning industry is taking full advantage of the recent rekindling of love for the simple UK camping holiday. As millions of Britons fail to find cash for an overseas holiday, camp sites have been investing heavily in building new facilities such as toilet and shower blocks, swimming pools, bars, shops, restaurants and even the grass the tents and caravans are pitched on.

Brits are pitching tents and renting caravans rather than forking out cash on flights and overseas hotels. The weakness of the Sterling and rising fuel prices as well as high inflation has meant overseas breaks are simply unaffordable. According to the Office of National Statistics, holidays abroad have declined by over a quarter in the past two years, with camping holidays in 2010 up 20% on 2009 and the Easter weekend this year saw 25% more bookings than the same period last year.

However, it isn’t just about price, as according to Post Office Money it will cost you more to go out for dinner, buy a coffee, some sun cream and a beer in the UK than it would in Spain. Furthermore, the economic situation is better now than it was in 2009 but there are still far more people going on a camping holiday. People must actually like it.

The millions of people that are choosing to holiday in the UK for the first time are finding out the joys of their own country. They are surprised to find miles of beautiful sandy beaches, with clean, clear water. They didn’t know the Lake District was so green or that the waterways of Norfolk were so charming and family friendly.

The government, in time for the London Olympics next year is trying to boost extending holidays in the UK among Brits. It is hoping to increase the number of four-night of longer domestic breaks by 9%. The growing popularity of camping looks as if they could reach their target sooner rather than later.

To help matters, the Met Office is predicting a scorcher of a summer, which is set to rival the record-breaking summer of 1976. For fellow campers this is good news. Greater popularity means greater investment in facilities and services and also new campsites are likely to spring up in the coming years.

If you have been umming and ahhing over whether to upgrade to a static caravans now is a good time to do so. Some investment projects have already been completed, with more on the way. So it’s best to get in early before prices rise. Park Resorts has a range of static caravans to choose from at many of its resorts at prices that are surprisingly affordable.
